1. When water comes out poorly

If only a specific faucet has poor water pressure, please consult a designated water supply installation contractor. However, water pressure will inevitably drop for hot water supplies and water supply on the second floor or above.

If water pressure is poor for all faucets, or if it has suddenly gotten worse recently, please check that the ring valve is fully open and that there is no leakage or sound of running water.

If the water pressure has been poor for a while, it may be a structural problem. If the problem is due to factors such as the distance from the main pipe, insufficient diameter, branching, or a decrease in the pipe cross-section due to deterioration over time, it may not be possible to resolve the problem without replacing the water supply pipe. The cost of this will be borne by the customer.

Please contact the Water Supply and Sewerage Bureau Water Supply Maintenance Section (096-381-5600).

2. When the water appears red

When pipes become old, the rust inside may melt, making the water appear reddish in color. The water will become clear again if you keep the water running for a short period.

3. When the water appears white (cloudy)

Pour water into a cup and let it sit for about 2 minutes. If the bottom starts to turn clear, it means air is mixed with the water. This is nothing of concern. If the water does not become transparent, then you may have metal (zinc) in your pipe. Drain all the water from the pipe and only use the water again once it becomes clear.

4. If you smell chlorine

If you smell chlorine, that is because chlorine has been mixed in. In Japan, we use chlorine to disinfect our water. Tap water is also mandated to not contain any residual bleach. The smell is proof the water has been disinfected, and there are no concerns when drinking this water.

○ If you go on a trip and will not use water for an extended period of time

Since the water in your pipes will be quite old, it is recommended to run the tap until it fills up one bucket's worth of water before drinking.

○ If there is a leak

  1. Shut off the water supply valve
  2. Check the water meter
  3. If the water meter is still running, there is a leak somewhere between the meter and the faucet

☆ If the pilot has not been turned, there is no problem.

For repairs and inspections, please contact a water supply installation contractor designated by the Waterworks and Sewerage Bureau (the cost of the repair will be the user's responsibility). Please contact the Water and Sewerage Bureau Customer Center at 096-381-1118 if you have any questions.

5. If water is seeping out into the road

To protect the precious groundwater, please contact the Water Supply Maintenance Section (096-381-5600).

6. To prevent pipes from freezing

When temperatures drop to around -4°C, water pipes are more likely to freeze and break. Please take measures such as running water little by little from the faucet or attaching thermal tubes, towels, etc. to the water pipes.
Also, it is effective if you run all the water out from your outdoor water heater or solar powered water heater.

If the water pipe from the distribution pipe to the water meter is damaged, please make emergency repairs and then contact the Water Supply Maintenance Section (096-381-5600).

7. If your toilet is clogged and will not flush

Most clogs can be fixed with a commercially available plunger. If the problem is still not fixed, please contact a designated drainage facility construction company (the cost will be borne by the customer).

○ If your toilet water will not stop flowing
Use a screwdriver to tighten the "stop valve" attached to the pipe that supplies water to the tank to shut off the water. If the tie inside the tank has come off or the gasket is old, repair it. If you are unable to repair it yourself, please request a water supply installation contractor to repair it (the cost will be borne by the customer).
